About

A bit more

By 2022 the shop had grown from a single mat recommendation into a small selection of essentials, all tested in Mika's own practice and in the home sessions of a small group of regular contributors. The writing has stayed personal. The shop has stayed small on purpose. Seven years in, Silt Lab Blend is still run from Japan, still shaped by the seasons, and still trying to be the most useful yoga resource for people who take their practice seriously without taking themselves too seriously.

I started writing because I kept having the same conversation.

Yoga outfits for autumn: a practical layering guide

Autumn yoga outfit advice tends to fall into two unhelpful categories: summer gear with a cardigan thrown over it, or full winter kit that you overheat in by the second sun salutation. Neither is useful. This is a practical guide to layering for the specific conditions of autumn practice in Japan.

How to build a home yoga practice that lasts

Most people who try to start a home yoga practice quit within the first month. Not because they lack discipline, but because the conditions that make a studio class work, a teacher, a schedule, other people in the room, are all absent at home. Building a practice that holds without those supports takes a different approach.

Mindful living in autumn: small habits that support the practice

Autumn in Japan arrives with a particular quality of light and a drop in temperature that the body registers before the mind does. The practice changes with the season, and so does everything around it. This is about the small habits that make the transition easier.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you ship the essentials shop items outside Japan?

Currently the shop ships within Japan only. International shipping involves customs paperwork and costs that we have not been able to make work fairly for customers yet. We are looking at options for 2027. If you are outside Japan, the practice guides and articles are all freely available.

How do you decide what goes into the shop?

Everything goes through at least two months of use in Mika's own practice before it is considered. If it passes that, it goes to a small group of regular contributors with different body types and practice styles. If it holds up across that range, it makes the shop. A lot of things do not make it.
